The McKinleyville Community Skatepark Organization (MCSO), a non-profit organization was formed in 2000 in efforts to develop a safe and accessible community skate park that encourages fitness activity and outdoor interactions in the growing rural communities of northern California. The organization was solely created by vested members of the community to assist the McKinleyville Community Services District (MCSD) with the development of a community skate park. It is important to create diverse outdoor opportunities for youth in a centrally located accessible location. The skate park committee has received strong community support ranging from individuals to businesses through community outreach efforts such as community events, media, and fundraising benefits. Due to the nature of the organization being solely for the development of a single park, there are no current operational programs or services offered by the organization. Upon completion of the park, the MCSO will continue to work with MCSD to develop events, workshops, day camps, and other recreational opportunities for youth.
